Diyetisyen Beyza Tağraf, recent scientific studies have highlighted the anti-inflammatory effects of kefir on the intestines. She indicated that kefir may also serve as a protective food against Alzheimer’s disease. However, she stressed that merely consuming kefir would not be sufficient to achieve these benefits.

‘KEFİR MAY REDUCE NEUROINFLAMMATION’

Diyetisyen Tağraf stated that certain substances that lead to inflammation in the intestines may be suppressed through kefir consumption. She mentioned, “Reducing neuroinflammation is actually a good strategy for preventing or protecting against Alzheimer’s. However, we need to pay attention to additional factors. If we want to see the benefits of kefir, we must optimize our overall health conditions and nutrition,” she explained.

“A HOLISTIC APPROACH IS ESSENTIAL IN ALZHEIMER’S FIGHT”

Diyetisyen Tağraf emphasized the importance of adopting a holistic treatment approach by comparing Alzheimer’s to a house with many leaks. “If you want to repair this roof, you need to close all the leaks. Inflammation is just one of them. We must develop a strategy targeting every factor that can cause Alzheimer’s. Utilizing the power of holistic medicine and adopting a multidisciplinary approach is crucial,” she noted.

“KEFIR ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH”

She also mentioned that for patients suspected of having Alzheimer’s, they do not focus on a single treatment method. “While medical treatment is applied, we also adjust the diet. If appropriate, brain stimulations and cognitive rehabilitation are administered. It is vital to guide Alzheimer’s patients correctly at this stage. While kefir is undoubtedly beneficial, we need to improve overall health to truly see its effect,” she said.

“SUPPORTING PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ACTIVITIES CAN SLOW DOWN THE BRAIN’S AGING PROCESS”

Diyetisyen Tağraf expressed that a healthier diet, increased physical activity, and supported mental operations can slow down the aging process of the brain. “We need to adopt the habit of offering support in all areas—socially, mentally, and physically—when there is suspicion related to Alzheimer’s, not just through medication. In other words, we must impact the patient’s life holistically. With this approach, we can truly observe the positive effects of kefir,” she concluded.
